
How On Ideas Cleaned-Up with Veolia Environmental Services of North America
Veolia Environmental Services is a worldwide leader in integrated environmental solutions to industrial, commercial, municipal and residential sectors. They provide solid waste collection, recycling and disposal services, hazardous waste disposal and recycling services, industrial cleaning, mechanical maintenance and sewer services as well as build and operate waste-to-energy facilities.
In late 2005 the company, formerly known as Onyx North America, was preparing to take on the name of its parent company, Veolia Environnement, as part of a worldwide re-branding effort by the French-owned company. Due to independent business unit practices and a number of previous reorganizations, the company lacked a consistent and targeted message.
As its AOR, On Ideas was tasked with developing an integrated communications plan to introduce the Veolia brand to North America; deliver messaging consistent with that of the parent company and sister divisions; and demonstrate the company’s leadership position within the American market.
On Ideas created messaging for all communications around Veolia’s tagline ‘Turning waste into a resource’. News of the re-brand was first communicated at a national event – the National League of Cities Conference – that was attended by the company’s key municipal clients. In addition, relationships between key trade journalists and VESNA executives were established resulting in positive, ongoing media coverage for Veolia. Working with the VESNA team, On Ideas developed arresting print creative and online executions, coming together in a national branding campaign. An ongoing campaign that has resulted in measurably increased visibility and awareness of the brand.
