From 1986 to 2003 Tom was a partner and CEO of an agency that became one of the largest networks in the northeast. In 2005, Tom lured his friend of over 30 years (Frank, formerly “the intern”) to join him in Florida to form On Ideas. What got you into this business in the first place? It is the only thing I ever wanted to do. My friends in college used to get peeved because I knew what I wanted to be from day one while they, like most normal people that age, weren’t at all sure what they wanted to do with their lives. So much for “normal.” What makes a great brand? Consumer passion. Passion for what the brand stands for, which can only arise in an atmosphere of complete trust, which in turn is only possible when there is no fear. The right advertising can crush consumer fears, earn their trust and, ultimately, drive that passion. Is there any food that helps you think more creatively? Scotch.
